Security
Bicycle security, in the form of widely distributed public bicycle parking and secure storage, reassures cyclists that their bicycle will not be stolen or vandalized.
+ Read MoreBicycle theft has been identified as a major deterrent to cycling across all types of cities. An average of about 300 bicycles are stolen in the Netherlands each day; half of all active cyclists in Montreal have had their bicycles stolen; and up to 28% of cyclists in Accra and Delhi report having their bicycles stolen. Secure parking and storage can help to enable long-term ridership, since a considerable number of cyclists (e.g., up to 30% in Guangzhou) report having to stop cycling after their bicycle was stolen. Additionally, having a system in place to report a theft and facilitate bicycle recovery if one does occur is reassuring to cyclists.
